I Heart Making Out

October 07, 2010 By: Bren Ryder Category: The Work

Recently I shot a scene that I’ve entitled, “The Makeout”. And for this entire 30 minute film my co-star and I, you guessed it, we make out. It’s partly an experiment in creating soft-core queer porn, partly a way to make Lucy Loose -  a possible new Good Dyke Porn™ star – feel comfortable in front of the camera for the first time, but mostly, it’s just a reason for me to kiss a hot woman for practically an hour. I’m a pretty serious fan of the make out. Seriously, I love it. I heart it, even.

Not only was this Lucy Loose’s first time in front of the camera it was Charlie Spat‘s first time behind the camera for Good Dyke Porn™. Charlie is my new porn intern and is helping me with camera work whenever possible and whatever else we can figure out for him to do. He’s also game for getting in front of the camera so let me know if you lust after this sweet, young, perverted, transman (and want to be on camera, of course). I thought the footage turned out great and I appreciate the eye Charlie had for the tight close-ups. You get in there so close you can feel the heat and the wetness that’s increasing between us.

I wrote about how I was feeling before the shoot in THIS article. I talked about how nervous I felt. It was true. Even though we were only planning on kissing I was still really anxious about how it was going to go. Mostly, I think I get nervous because I want it to go well. I feel like every time I reserve time with someone (and crew and equipment and everything else) that I need to make the best of it. It needs to be the best it can be because this is our shot at doing it. And, of course, it always turns out great. I’m just so invested in the work that I do that I want people to like it. And this scene is different in that we aren’t sticking any fingers or dildos into anyone’s body. Although, Lucy’s fingers did make their way into my mouth a few times.

At the beginning of the scene we set the boundaries, no fucking. There. Neither one of us had our STI paperwork done recently so even if we wanted to, then we couldn’t have sex that night. Perfect. Hard boundary engaged. We brainstormed a bit about how people actually end up kissing in real life situations. I tend to verbalize my desire to kiss someone and other perspectives around the room spoke of a lot of build-up. We knew we wanted to capture something of the magic that happens before the kiss, without having too much time pass without kissing. So we made a plan. Lucy was going to try to get me to kiss her and I was going to try to resist.

Resisting kissing this beautiful woman was not at all easy. See, I have a very tough job. ;-) I did my best to play along and very quickly we let that fall to the side and simply got down to kissing. And it was really really nice. In time, her dress zipper came down, my shirt came undone, then the dress was completely removed and we couldn’t believe that we couldn’t have sex with each other! It was rather torturous. We were both so wet. Her skin was so smooth and enticing. And she was almost completely naked on my couch. It was so incredibly hard to resist throwing all restraint to the wayside and doing what we both really wanted to be doing, fucking.

But, I think that torture just added to the sexiness of the video. And, now we definitely have to work together on another scene in the future. We now know that a lengthy make out session will ignite the spark between us. The next scene is already written for us.

The Epic Butch Weekend: Portand 2010 +/-

October 04, 2010 By: Bren Ryder Category: The Work

This weekend I went to Butch Voices conference in Portland, OR. Here’s a partial breakdown of the good, the bad and the beautiful of the trip.

+ Getting enough money to cover my rent deposited into my account on the day before leaving for Portland, aka Rent Day.
- Only getting 3 hours of sleep the night before because I left everything to the last minute.
+ Butch road trip in the minivan.
- Eight hours on the road.
+ Meeting Sophia St. James at the “Love Hurts” play party. We got to know each other a bit while watching some really interesting scenes unfold in front of us. I found myself playing along, whispering, “I think they’re listing prime numbers.” And Sophia was practically losing her mind over the cupcakes being eaten on the other side of the room.
+/- Waited at the play party until the last person left to go home with Sophia St. James. The 80 year old security guard kicked us out over noise complaints and he wouldn’t leave until every last one of the kinky freaks walked out that door, us included. I would have loved to have heard his thoughts that night.
+ Sitting in on some really interesting presentations and conversations that explored gender, sex and identity. I feel like I want the conversations to continue.
+ Meeting people I’ve talked to online, but only seen their face in pictures. They come alive before my eyes and we hug.
+ My presentation, Good Butch Porn: Butch Representation in Porn, getting applause, laughs, attention, heaps of compliments and appreciation and a mixed reaction from those who attended. It was a full room and a perfect size for everyone who attended. I was nervous but it went really well and I felt proud of myself for doing something so outside my comfort zone. Big risk, big pay-off.
- Being unable to answer a few questions from the audience to their satisfaction. It was about politics and I just do better when I speak for myself. But, I could probably use some work on expressing that better.
- Forgetting to print out the quote from James Darling I wanted to use as an introduction to my compilation of trans porn from Good Dyke Porn™.
+ Tobi Hill-Meyer coincidentally quoting James Darling from my blog, reading from their phone, to clarify the role and perspective of transguys in dyke porn.
+ Watching the sign language interpreter translate the sex sounds during my porn clips.
+ Listening to an incredible keynote address from Kathleen Saadat. It was a great way to tie it all together. The experiences from the conference were all so diverse, the address was a great note to end on.
+ My crew of butch buddies nearly falling off their chairs when they meet my new friend and scene partner, Sophia St. James: “This is who you’re having sex with tomorrow? Nice!” She was looking damn fine at the Butch Buffet and she’s so sweet she melts our hearts with her charm.
+ About 90 minutes of really amazing performances at the Butch Buffet cabaret.
- The cabaret was more than 180 minutes long.
+ The crowd yelling “porn!” when asked which workshop they liked the best.
+ Giving Sophia St. James a live version of Butch Tits at the Egyptian Room. Since the bar messed up the screening of Jen Crother’s film.
+ The after after-party with the SweLL gang at the Jupiter Hotel. There were about 4 states and 3 countries represented in that hotel room.
- Getting very little sleep and waking up hungover.
+ Plotting my porn scene to start with the characters being tired and hungover, but waking up for Sunday morning sex.
+ Tobi Hill-Meyer being one of the videographers for my shoot with Sophia. Both of my generous crew volunteers did amazing jobs of working with our interpretation of intimate sex with someone you just met that weekend. On the edge of my peripheral vision I could tell that they were communicating with each other and covering angles the best they could. Sometimes “real sex” is difficult to photograph, but I just wanted them to capture the feeling of being in the same room as us. I look forward to working on the scene.
+ Post-shoot brunch at “Elmer’s”. Greasy potato, meat, eggs and cheese was exactly what I needed in that moment.
+ Getting a hand-forged doughnut and americano for the road from Top Pot in Seattle, WA.
+ The whole trip costing less than $100, excluding wages.

It was a great trip. It felt so epic but I was only in Portland for about a day and a half. I look forward to returning and getting a chance to experience the city in a completely different way.

Post-shoot kisses with Sophia St. James:

Butch Voices This Weekend

September 30, 2010 By: Bren Ryder Category: Me, The Work

I am so excited for this weekend. I’m doing finishing touches on my presentation and sorting out final details for my upcoming porn shoot. It’s going to be a busy whirlwind of a weekend. I’ll be doing a lot this weekend and sleeping isn’t going to be one of them.

The Portland, Oregan regional conference of Butch Voices is on this Saturday, October 2, 2010.

This event extravaganza is a spin off from last year’s national convergence of everything butch at the first Butch Voices conference in Oakland, CA. There have already been regional conferences this year in Texas, New York and coming up in LA.

Me and a van full of butches from Vancouver, Canada, are going to drive down to Portland on Friday afternoon. At that point we’ll all scatter to our individual accommodations and get ready for the big day, conference day. I’ll be staying with Sophia St. James so I’ll be meeting her at her party, “Love Hurts” (it sure does, doesn’t it, but in that good way…not doubt there’ll be a lot of good hurting going on at this party).

Saturday is going to be a full day: 8am registration and workshops from morning ’til mine. My workshop is at 3pm and is entitled Good Butch Porn: Butch Representation in Porn. I’ll be showing butches getting nasty from my own footage of Good Dyke Porn™, offering my own perspectives and observations and inviting others to speak up, as well. I’ve never put on a workshop before, but I figure as long as I’m showing hot butches fucking then I really can’t go wrong.

I’m looking forward to meeting a few online friends and acquaintances. Fresh from the New York  Butch Voices conference Sinclair Sexsmith of Sugarbutch fame will be giving a workshop on writing first thing in the morning, called, “Telling Our Stories”.

Everyone is the expert of their own life. Everyone knows themselves, their stories, their triumphs, their heartaches, better than anyone else. We all come from somewhere. We all have had struggles, heartaches, successes, breakthroughs, knockdowns, sideswipes, joy, that have brought us from the people we used to be to the person that we are today, and we butches have our own unique and similar stories. The rewards of starting to tell these stories, to write them down, to have others witness our stories, can be massive.

Later, Kyle Jones will be giving a workshop on gender identity. Sounds like a great workshop and I look forward to meeting Kyle, as well.

When it comes to our own identity, each of us is simultaneously an expert and a student. The goal of the genderqueer workshop is to allow participants to share their own experiences in gender identity exploration and gain insight from the experiences of others.

And a handful of others, as well. This is just the tip of the butch iceberg. Oh the butchness abounds. I look forward to every one of the workshops that I’ll be able to attend. But, I know I’m going to be nervous about giving mine. I’ll try not to fret about it too much and just enjoy each moment of butch bonding and masculine celebrating that’s going to go on all day long.

Another friend of mine is going to be showcasing their work at the Butch Buffet. There will be a lot of talent there, so follow the link to see for yourself. Worth noting is the film “Butch Tits” by Jen Crothers. Jen will be road tripping with me and I’ve seen the film and it’s fantastic. I’m especially partial to butch tits just because I have a couple of my own that I hold near to my heart. And the film is really well done and a perfect celebration of female masculinity.

So, after the hot sex party, long day of bromance, wild celebration of all things butch and then perhaps a party or two, first thing Sunday morning I go to work. I shoot a scene with Sophia St. James before hitting the road back home. Sophia was planning on driving up to Vancouver during Pride to stay with me, celebrate and shoot a scene. That didn’t work out because of a flat time and now I get to be in her town and her home and we’re going to set the stage for our production once again. I haven’t met her yet, but we’ve emailed and talked on the phone and skyped once. Plus, I’ve heard great things from friends who know her. I have a feeling that it’s going to be a really great connection. I’m really looking forward to “working” with her. Of course, I’ll be nervous as hell as I always am when it comes to shooting a scene, never mind being in a scene. It’s going to be great.

How To Win At Quitting

September 20, 2010 By: Bren Ryder Category: Me

I like to play with the blog convention of titling articles starting with “How To” or “10 Ways To”. It’s a trick to entice people to read your article because the Internet is for information and clearly those kinds of articles will contain very useful information. If your familiar with this blog then you’ll know that I occasionally use this convention as a way of telling my own stories. Not as trick on you, necessarily, but a trick for my own writing brain. Somehow this all seems that much easier to write when I pretend I’m passing on some kind of wisdom. Whereas, in reality, I’m simply exploring the question…”How Does One Win At Quitting?”

The quitting that I’m referring to is my day job as a window cleaner. I’ve written a few articles in the past regarding my constant struggle with working the damn day job to make ends meet. Once again, I was faced with a situation that wasn’t working for me and I made the choice to move on, step away, take the leap…right off the cliff into the world of full-time self-employment. I’ve got a few oddly placed unsure nets below me and I’m barely hanging on but I am hanging on. As my determination grows, so does the strength of my grip. Alright, that’s enough of the metaphors.

So, how am I going to win at quitting?

At this point, I pretty much think of success in terms of paying my rent and eating on a regular basis, while continuing to cover all my business expenses. I think I’m about halfway to achieving my goal. This means I need to get creative with my budgeting – both business and personal – and get some help on the side. One way I’m “getting creative” is to use porn as currency whenever possible. Tapping into the brilliance of bartering, I’ve been able to enjoy the amazing work of friends’ published books and live shows. I’ve traded porn for haircuts, home-cooked meals, drinks, and pretty much anything and everything I can think of.

Memberships and DVD’s aren’t the only things I trade. I will clean your windows, help you with your website, videotape a film or event, tutor you on Final Cut Pro, cat-sit, dog walk, promote your work, help you move heavy objects and, well, what do you need…let’s talk. I’ve got a few leads on some essential living supplies and services and I’m always on the look out for deals, free stuff and trades. Sometimes the $10 or $20 that I would normally spend without a second thought could keep me fed for a week. If you have stuff you want to give away or you want to help in some way, here’s my wish list (which includes my survival list – surviving is clearly a wish of mine, but why stop there).

So, surviving is one way to “win at quitting”, but the most important reason for quitting is to have the time and the focus to put in the work to make my business profitable. My biggest challenge with succeeding right now is sticking to my self-discipline. I’m the kind of person who loves to do nothing all day. It’s not fulfilling necessarily, but, for some reason I feel compelled to wile away my time like nobody’s business. Even though I hear everybody struggles with procrastination, I find myself to be quite an anomaly among my friends and lovers. I suspect that’s because I’m naturally drawn to qualities that I don’t personally possess, like drivenness, competitiveness and raw passion. Hey, there’s a possible trade: you show me how to be more driven and I’ll show you how to do less.

Unfortunately, these qualities don’t rub off quite that easily. I’m just taking it one step at a time, one task at a time, one day at a time. I’m cutting back on Facebook time, limiting my tv watching and scheduling a comfortable amount of free time so I don’t completely lose myself in my own endeavour to improve myself.

Succeeding is important to me. Living my life the way I want to is important to me. I refuse to let go.

Fundraising Cut Short: The Winners!

September 15, 2010 By: Bren Ryder Category: The Work

I was running a fund-raiser for the month of September to raise money to create more content for my website: GoodDykePorn.com. I used Paypal as a way for people to give me their donations. Which, of course, was a big mistake because using any kind of conventional service for anything porn-related is a sure-fire way to get yourself banned, booted out of the club, flagged, whatever. They banned me for “selling” adult content using their service. But what they should have banned me for was using their service for a “lottery”. Because I wasn’t selling the content. I was going to randomly gift a one-year membership to one of the donors.

This, as usual, is very frustrating. But, I rarely use Paypal so I’m not too concerned about the suspension (I can’t sell DVD’s through Paypal like my US colleagues can). So, to combat this negativity I’ve decided to give a one-year membership to every single person who donated. That’s right you two! Congratulations!
[Now don't you wish *you* had given me your dollar. *grin*]

I feel fantastic about this decision because one of the winners has been a long-term customer and the other is someone I’ll likely be working with in the near future. Spreading dyke porn and joy and legs across the land. That’s just how I roll.

Message me at bren@gooddykeporn.com to discuss alternate ways of contributing or other create ways to help. Thanks!

How You Can Save Good Dyke Porn

September 08, 2010 By: Bren Ryder Category: The Work

Contact me at bren@gooddykeporn.com for alternate payment methods or other creative contributions.

Edited Sept.15/10: As usual, linking any mainstream service to something adult-related gets me booted out of the club. So, fundraising drive cut short. Thanks to all those who contributed.
See THIS post for details on what happened.

The Jist: Donate $1 or more to win a year-long membership to GoodDykePorn.com. Everyone who donates will gain 24hr access to members area. Please read on.

It’s September, it’s coming on fall and it feels like a brand new year. September tends to feel like that to me because of the whole back-to-school vibe and the change in season. It makes me feel excited about getting work done and hunkering down for the winter.

I recently quit my day job and I’m not exactly sure how I’m going to survive, but I feel confident that it’s going to work out. I needed the job because as a solo operator of Good Dyke Porn™ I put all my cash-flow into making more porn and paying for promotion and improving the business to the best of my ability. However, the day job was also getting in the way of…making porn, promoting the site and improving the business. So, I took the leap and now I’m taking another shot at dedicating myself 100% to running this business. I’m excited about it. I started this process exactly 4 years ago and have been live online for the past 3 years. Now is the time where I will finally be able to provide consistent updates, world-wide exposure and quality web-surfing experience. It’ll just take a teensy bit of crazy hard work on my part. No problem!

Here’s where you come in.

I need money! Now more than ever I have people who are contacting me about shooting dyke porn and I have Shanna Katz travelling to San Francisco and Boulder, CO and other places to shoot some porn scenes. I also have the conference Butch Voices coming up in Portland, OR where I will be presenting a workshop on butch representation in queer porn and shooting a scene with Sophia St. James. All of my porn shoots are paid gigs. Everyone who fucks on camera for me gets paid. This is very important to me, however, it presents an obstacle for creating more scenes when my bank account is empty.

I need your help and you need dyke porn. So, let’s help each other.

For the entire month of September I will be running a donation-based lottery for a One Year Membership for GoodDykePorn.com.

For a minimum donation of $1.00 you will be put into a draw for a chance to win the One Year Membership. If you donate $2.00 then you will get two chances, $3 gives you three chances, etc, etc. If you donate $100 or more then you will also be entered to win a Lifetime Membership, plus a autographed DVD (though, you will not leave empty handed not matter what). AND, everyone who donates no matter what the amount will gain access to the members area for one full day – date to be announced.

Please feel free to email me with any questions about forms of payment at bren@gooddykeporn.com .
Your donation will be to my blog and porn company.

Can’t wait until the end of September to get your free access, but still want to help and watch dyke porn?

Transguys on Good Dyke Porn – Part 2

September 03, 2010 By: Bren Ryder Category: The Work

Here is another interview with one of the guys who’s done some scenes on GoodDykePorn.com. They have requested that I keep their identity private but he’s on the website so when you’re browsing all the scenes you can probably guess or go ahead and pick out whomever you’d like it to be.

(Just like I’m doing in the picture. Ha.)

1. What made you want to do porn for Good Dyke Porn™?

There were many motives behind my decision to be involved with the project.
I think my main drive behind it was wanting trans bodies, and variations on the queer body to be visible. Even if it was a limited visibility, it created exposure and demystified different bodies. I hoped in a selfish way that it would make people more at ease with getting down with trans people. At this point the only exposure to queer porn I had, was The Crash Pad and Superfreak, produced in San Francisco. I wanted to increase the scope, for myself and others.
I was also exploring my exhibitionist side. So the thought of being filmed while getting it on, was exciting to me. Then by extension having sex kind of instantly shown on the internet was even more exciting, and knowing that it would educate and get people off. Well its a win win situation.

2. Knowing that GDP is inclusive of a variety of queer representations of gender and sexuality, as an ftm guy how do you feel about being a part of “dyke porn”?

Being under the moniker good dyke porn could be seen as problematic and empowering.
I guess in my mind it wraps itself up in identity politics. Because I identify with being part of a queer community, I think all things a little strange or subversive fall under that identifying word (queer).
Although i don’t really fall under the label of dyke, I defiantly see myself as more of a dyke then a heterosexual white male, or even anywhere in the gender binary.
I think it amazing that GDP is inclusive of all queer bodies, you have a diverse and dynamic cast that is represented on the site that I feel begins to represent a part of the queer community.

3. What is your vision of the future of dyke/trans/queer porn?

I see a lot of great things happening with queer porn right now. There are a lot of great sites out there that are so diverse and inclusive, its really exciting. A lot of queer porn being produced is super DIY and independent. Being produced by people like Bren who just want to see some hot porn with real people, who we (queer folks) find attractive. I see sites now like NoFauxxx and an amazing new publication called Original Plumbing. I also came across Morty Diamond’s work. He does these amazing tranny fag films.
It seems like these queer sites are a place where you can see the diversity of the queer scene in one place. I hope to see that transferred into our real lives and into our communities. I would like to begin to see more and more diversity, and more visibility for different faces, and bodies.

4. How do you think trans bodies should be portrayed in pornographic media?

I think that the portrayal of trans bodies in pornographic media can be a bit problematic, especially in mainstream media. The only representation that you see are these sensationalized bodies. Like Buck Angel, who i feel is a representation of a small population of the world. He is a muscley white male. Perpetuating a main stream stereotype of what a male should be. The same can be said about the representation of trans women in porn. It seems to me that trans people have been marginalized and pin holed through the exposure the public has. Like the only mainstream representation there is for trans bodies are in these very sexualized scopes, so they are only seen as sexual objects and not human beings. It’s a dangerous line between fetishism and sexiness.
I think the same could be said about the representation of queer and gay people in mainstream pornography. I think we need to be careful about how we sexualize the queer body/community and work on different ways of relating to each other.

5. Looking back on scenes you’ve done in the past, how do you feel about having your past physical body captured on film?

It’s exciting for me to have my past body captured. I think it important for me to recognize that that body existed for me, and I lived it in for so long. It’s also interesting to relate so much more to the body I am in now, and see how much I’ve changed. Like my intense amount of body hair, muscles and my lovely scars from top surgery. Its interesting to think that people look at me now and would never imagine that I had breasts and would be called a dyke.

6. What else would you like to say about trans porn representation in general?

I think that trans porn is branching off, and that’s an exciting and scary thought.
Like I said before I think it’s important for trans bodies to have visibility but also, I think it’s important to see them beyond a sexual and fetishized object and recognize that they are something beyond the body.
But I look at work like Original Plumbing and Morty Diamond‘s stuff, and I feel empowered and excited that there is this work being done. It’s important stuff, because it helps people think twice when they look at someone and assume their identity. Yes it’s using a sexualized scope, but it still creates visibility. Like through my exposure to the queer femme community I think twice when I look at a femme person. I’m not going to automatically assume that that person is straight identified. The same can be said about making assumptions about a “straight couple”,  later you may be on a queer porn site, and see that same couple getting down.

Dylan and Dani Starr are Stars

August 27, 2010 By: Bren Ryder Category: The Work

This summer, Shanna Katz – aka Essin Em – sent me another film to include on Good Dyke Porn.com. This time she was behind the  camera shooting a hot butch/femme couple in Arizona. I love my job. People from the other side of the continent decide they want their sex to be shown on Good Dyke Porn™ and voila, here it is. They set up the scene in the same way I like to, by putting together a fun context and then getting right to the sex. Similar to “Pizza Delight”, where the butch shows up at the door delivering pizza wearing just a harness on top, Dani is dressed in a french maid outfit that appears rubbery in texture and not really covering much up. The maid was naughty and she must be punished with spanks and… oh, orgasms, of course. And just to really teach her a lesson, Dylan bends over and gets rightly fucked herself.

Shanna did a great job of capturing close ups of the slippery, sexy goodness and facial expression you only see between two people in love and she even helped solve a problem that needed some talking out: “You don’t have to be sexual superheroes. Just have the sex you like to have.” That’s pretty much exactly the same direction I give when shooting a scene.

After spending a week doing some minor editing, I completely fell in love with these two. I could watch them have sex all day long. And, I know I’m a pornographer and watching people have sex is what I do, but I was struck by how comfortable I felt seeing them naked and sexually vulnerable. It’s exactly as I imagined porn should be. No shame. No ick factor. Just beautiful beautiful sex.

To me, their naked bodies are just another part of who they are – which is, of course, literally true. I don’t even know what they’re like when they’re not having sex, but when I watch the way they respectfully handle each other’s bodies and communicate about what’s working and what’s not and smile and giggle and gush at the pleasure they’re giving their partner, I can’t help but love them.

DIY Arts Funding Through Porn

August 17, 2010 By: Bren Ryder Category: The Work

Last night was the premiere screening of “Horsey”, a collaboration between Amber Dawn, myself (as Horsey) and Juli (another talented filmmaker friend who worked both cameras seamlessly). The screening was a part of The Coast is Queer at Vancouver Queer Film Festival. It’s a night of local short films and is always really well attended and loved by those who attend. The night was a great success. There were lots of amazing films and plenty of fantastic supporters.

So, one of my biggest challenges with running my business, Good Dyke Porn™ is that I tend have trouble promoting it. Especially, approaching people to hand out flyers or talk about the site. But, given that this film was originally created for GoodDykePorn.com then it presented a perfect opportunity to let people know about the site. I got some promo cards from HotMoviesForHer and put together a little flyer specifically outlining how to see more of “Horsey” and the current deals we’ve got running. I got permission to hand them out to people at the screening and it was suggested by my business coach and friends to say a few words about the site and the deals when it was my turn to talk before the screening began. This was definitely travelling outside of my comfort zone, but this site is currently my whole frickin’ life and I felt prepared to do what I could to appropriately promote my work.

The flyers were well received. They got 30 free minutes at HotMoviesForHer.com and some people were coming back for more when they missed getting one on their first pass. I didn’t mind standing there handing out the flyers because I got to say “free dyke porn?” as I handed them out and most people were happy to take one. I accidentally gave one to a non-festival goer and she looked a little confused at first but then came back and told me she realized what it was and really appreciated that I gave it to her.

Then comes the moment of truth: getting up in front of the full theatre and talking, first about the short film itself and then about Good Dyke Porn. When it was my turn I got cheers from the audience, which made me feel very supported, especially since I wasn’t actually there “with” anybody. I briefly described the film I was representing and attempted to promote but was playfully and politely shutdown before I got anywhere. I understand why that happened. Promoting a “business” can be tricky at these sorts of events and I wasn’t an official sponsor or anything. But, like most times, I thought later what I should have said in that moment. I would have liked to’ve said a brief thanks to the members and customers of Good Dyke Porn because without their support the film never would have been made.

Prior to the screening we listened to a speech about the devastating state of arts funding in British Columbia and some good news about the success the film festival has received from personal donations. The message was clear: In these hard times, give your support with money whenever you can. In the moment, when I was facing the crowd, I didn’t think to tie this into my work. But, now, I would like to give my thanks.

Thank you to everyone who has ever bought a membership online or a DVD in a store or purchased clips or watched Video-on-Demand or even clicked on an affiliate link to another site. Because of you, I rented a couple of cameras, bought a suit and some supplies, paid my co-star, gave the camera operator a bit of cash, took us all out for dinner and, with the help of Amber Dawn, eventually turned the footage into a beautiful festival short film. Everything I create is 100% funded by you, the customer. I give my time and effort and I look forward to my own financial rewards somewhere down the line, but until then I am delighted to donate my time to continue to be creative with sexually explicit material. And hopefully, I can continue to show these films at festivals around the world.

I would also like to thank Out on Screen, the brilliant hard-working team behind Vancouver Queer Film Festival for supporting my work for the past three years. I look forward to many more creations and screenings in the future.

Transguys on Good Dyke Porn™ – James Darling

August 07, 2010 By: Bren Ryder Category: The Work

At Good Dyke Porn we continually strive to provide authentic queer content that’s inclusive to everyone who considers themselves to be queer. Obviously, there’s a focus on the female as indicated by the phrase “dyke porn”, but how do male-identified queers like female-to-male transgender or transsexual guys fit into this dyke porn paradigm?

Beautifully, as it turns out. The few scenes that we’ve been able to feature are incredibly sexy and hugely desired by our viewers, including myself.

Now on HotMoviesForHer.com, see the full movie that James Darling and Deluxx Dash submitted to GoodDykePorn.com:

I asked a few of the guys their personal perspective on being in porn, their thoughts on queer porn and Good Dyke Porn™ specifically. Following is the gorgeous James Darling and his answers:

1. What made you want to do porn? And what made you want to submit to Good Dyke Porn™?

When I first came out as trans, I saw very few examples of trans men being portrayed as hot, sexual beings. I wanted to do porn not only because I enjoy turning people on, but also because I wanted to be a part of creating what I wasn’t seeing. I wanted to show an example of hot, queer transsexual men enjoying their bodies in many ways with a variety of partners. It’s just added incentive that I’m an exhibitionist and really get off on being watched and having others enjoy my body and the way I fuck as much as I do.

The clips that are on Good Dyke Porn were originally an experiment Deluxx Dash and I created for another site. That was fun but I think they’re much better suited to this site and hope that they’re reaching a much more queer audience who will enjoy the clips as much as Deluxx and I enjoyed making them!

2. Knowing that GDP is inclusive of a variety of queer representations of gender and sexuality, as an FtM guy how do you feel about being a part of “dyke porn”?

Many trans guys have very complicated relationships to dyke culture and community. There’s often a lumping of transsexual men in with dyke and queer that can be problematic, especially when trans women are often simultaneously excluded.

Many trans men don’t have any connection with terms like dyke or queer and that should be respected, while many others do feel strong ties to those communities. Having a trans history doesn’t make someone queer and I think it’s important to make a distinction between gender and sexuality. Sometimes dykes and queer women hook up with or fall for men, whether they are cis or trans. That doesn’t make or break an identity and I personally think it’s pretty hot when it happens and should be celebrated and talked about more openly.

Speaking for myself I’m a queer transsexual man who doesn’t identify as a dyke. I really love that I can turn on all kinds of people, including dykes, and I’m excited to be a part of a site that celebrates so many bodies and identities.

3. What is your vision of the future of dyke/trans/queer porn?

I believe right now we are in the midst of a queer porn renaissance. It’s a really exciting time to be able to be in porn. I think more space is opening up for people with different bodies and sexualities and I’m looking forward to what comes of it. I think the porn industry has been in great need of something new and interesting and I love that more straight people are getting exposed to different kinds of sex they wouldn’t have a way to access otherwise. I think everyone benefits from knowing more about strap ons and fisting and squirting!

I realize that porn is a lot about fantasy and is often an intentional performance, but I would love to see more people’s fantasies including trans and fat and many other kinds of bodies that are so often devalued.

We are all so much more than the sum of our parts.

4. How do you think trans bodies should be portrayed in pornographic media?

I can’t really say how other people’s trans bodies should be portrayed. But I will say at this point in time I’ve found its rare to see trans male bodies outside of Buck Angel and much more recently in queer porn. So my short answer is I want MORE! I and many other trans male folks want to see older guys, guys who forgo hormones and/or surgery, genderqueers and men of color, to name a few examples. I have friends who are trans women who do porn and have varied and complicated feelings regarding trans representation in porn. Many identify as and love reclaiming terms like shemale and tranny while others find that language too oppressive.

I would like to see more porn about trans people created and produced by trans people, where the focus is less on unrealistic expectations of trans bodies and more on authentic representations of trans sexuality and desire.

5. Looking back on scenes you’ve done in the past, how do you feel about having your changing physical body captured on film?

The clips that are on Good Dyke Porn are from before I had chest surgery, and showing my body in this way was something I gave a lot of thought to before deciding I wanted to pursue porn. Ultimately I came to the conclusion that I have a rare and amazing opportunity to be able to document my body this way. I’ve taken photos and recorded my voice as I’ve seen many other trans guys do. But I think it’s really special to be able to watch the way I enjoy my body, the way it translates desire, and the way it moves and changes over time. I also like being part of documenting trans men enjoying their bodies without surgery, which is something I rarely if ever saw and would’ve found invaluable earlier on in my transition. Everyone’s process, feelings and comfort about their body is different, (whether you’re trans or not) but I don’t think there is enough porn out there that shows that trans people are capable of being hot and having really dirty and validating sex without surgery or hormones.

6. What else would you like to say about trans porn representation in general?

I really wanted to share some examples of rad people and companies producing porn by and for trans people. Tobi Hill-Myer with Doing it Ourselves: The Trans Women Porn Project, Mandy Mitchell, Courtney Trouble, CrashPadSeries.com, and two new projects www.heavenlyspire.com and www.darkhorsetheaters.com/pointofcontact by Shine the creator of Crashpad,  Trannywood and their new project Dolores Park Studios. I’ve fortunately gotten a chance to work with almost all of them, so if you want to see even more of my slutty, pervy, porny adventures you’ll know where to look!
